VMware to Nutanix Migration

Challenge

The bank's 3-Tier architecture (Storage/SAN/Servers) running VMware was expensive to maintain and complex to manage. With Broadcom's acquisition of VMware driving licensing costs up significantly, the bank needed a cost-effective alternative that would simplify operations without compromising reliability.

Approach

Planned and executed a phased migration to hyperconverged infrastructure:

• Audited existing VMware vSphere environment and workload requirements
• Designed Nutanix AHV cluster architecture with proper sizing
• Developed migration plan with risk assessment and downtime windows
• Migrated virtual machines in phases, starting with non-critical workloads
• Configured PostgreSQL HA clusters on the new platform
• Trained internal team on Nutanix Prism management

Results

• Reduced operational costs through elimination of separate storage and SAN infrastructure
• Simplified infrastructure management with single-pane-of-glass via Nutanix Prism
• Reduced support team requirements due to simplified architecture
• Improved performance with NVMe-based hyperconverged storage
